Roberto Pardini writes an opinion on the appeal process to Marcello Dell'Utri, known exponent of Forza Italy.
"Friday June 19th we held the third hearing of the appeal process to Marcello Dell'Utri for collusion with the Mafia. The first trial, remember, ended with the Judgement of 11 December 2004 and the condemnation of senator for nine years in prison and two years' probation, as well as perpetual interdiction from public offices and damages to civil parties.
Marcello Dell'Utri is the founder of Forza Italy, a party formed in 1994 to fill the void left by the Christian Democrats, and became the first political force in the island thanks to agreements with the men of Cosa Nostra.
In the text of the conviction of Mr Dell'Utri reads: "There is evidence that the Mafia had promised Dell'Utri distinct advantages in the political arena and, conversely, there is evidence that the mafia, running that promise, it was increasingly oriented to vote for Forza Italy in the first electoral competition and profit, still later, he was committed to supporting the electoral defendant during his candidacy for the European Parliament in the ranks of that party, and had major problems to be solved with justice because it was being discussed in this criminal trial .
The agreement is observed between men of honor: in 1994 the first party in Sicily, with no rivals, will force Italy. The results of regional elections in Sicily, 1996, 2001, 2006 and 2008, where Forza Italy was always the first party, I'm a try:
- year 1996, 456,127 votes, 17.1%, 17 seats,
- 2001, 628,028, 25.1%, 20 seats,
- anno 2006, 471.634 voti, 19,2% con 17 seggi,
- anno 2008, il serpente cambia pelle, ma non veleno, si chiama Popolo delle libertà e fagocita Alleanza Nazionale, raggiungendo i 900.149 voti, 33,42% dei votanti e 34 seggi.
Un patto col diavolo onorato dal Presidente del Consiglio da ben tredici anni, un patto di sangue che tiene la Sicilia in ostaggio da quel 16 giugno 1996.
Alla luce di tutto ciò, l'Italia non fà una bella figura all'estero".
